President's
message from Donna Kreutz:
Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone,
Thanks for visiting our website. Our club is going to be very busy this month and we invite you look around and find out more about us and what we’re doing.
I love February. Of course, that’s easy to say when you live in Southern California. But it’s true. The days are getting longer…there’s Valentine’s Day, I celebrate my birthday this month and the club is busy making plans for an exciting and productive spring.
We welcomed two new members in January. Kathy Kuric and Rachael Cleveland officially joined our club on January 13. It’s always exciting to welcome new members into the club.
For the next month or so, we will be involved in a project that utilizes a donation made to our club by Susan Handley from Beijo Bags. Known as the “Pink Beijo Bag Project”, the bags will be filled with supplies and given to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients at the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center.
Terry Bucknall, Director of the Imaging Center was voted as our club’s Ruby Award winner for her compassion and unending support to women who are dealing with breast cancer. Terry, along with our Woman’s Opportunity Award and Violet Richardson award winners, will be honored at our Awards Dinner on Wednesday, March 10.
The annual Zonta-Soroptimist meeting held on January 27 was amazing. Nearly 50 ladies represented Zonta, SI of Santa Clarita Valley and SI of Greater SCV. The evening’s speaker, Judge Graciela Freixes had just returned from a meeting in San Francisco on the subject of domestic violence. An exciting outcome of the evening is the planned formation of a three-way partnership to form a common “victim’s advocate” program. Members of all three clubs will be involved.
So, February finds our membership working hard on the Pink Beijo Bag Project, preparing to honor some amazing women at our Awards Dinner and looking forward to Spring Conference in April.
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day and come back often,
‘til next month,
Donna
